Fourth stop: Machu Picchu

Our visit to Machu Picchu was remarkable. I was there 20 years ago. At that time I was with a group of boyscouts and as far as I remember it was a very hot day. Things did not change with time. The day of our visit was very hot also, so we drank lots of liquid.

First, in the hotel just next to the entrance of Machu Picchu. Belmond Sanctuary Lodge, where we were invited for a lunch. There we had some refreshing lemonades: orange, mint and tangerine; Ayrampu (kind of cactus seed from Andes); and Melissa.

At the Sacred City of Machu Picchu we also drank a lot. Water and… juice! At the top of Wayna Picchu Mountain the refreshments were in form of fruit juice.

After 2 months in South America, it was time to go to the US where we spent almost 3 months for the second phase of our journey. There we had to be extremely cautious with our budget. South America was a good choice for controlling our expenses (in some places like Bolivia, accommodation was very cheap), and on the other hand we knew that North America could be dangerous for our savings.

But that’s for another chapter. For the moment we keep the good memories of beautiful South America.
